Hello everyone! I had the opportunity to be a guest blogger for Legend Homes! I shared that color has returned in many ways. The last few years we have shied away from color because white and gray became so popular. Don’t worry though! White and gray are still very popular on main walls in a house such as living, kitchen, dining room and study. One of my favorite whites to use in the main body of the house is Sherwin-Williams Shell White SW8917. It is one of Sherwin-Williams ColorMix Forecast 2018 paint colors. I had the pleasure to attending this year’s release party at the Nashville Adventure Science Center. Sherwin-Williams Color Mix Forecast 2018 released 36 paint colors and let me tell you there are several beautiful colors.
Let’s start in the kitchen – We are seeing many kitchens with a light color on the upper cabinetry, such as white or off-white and a dark rich color on the lower cabinetry, such as dark gray, navy and even black. Another trend we are seeing is having the upper and lower cabinetry being painted a lighter color and the large island a deep rich color. One of my favorite paint colors used on lower cabinets or an island is Sherwin-Williams Black Swan SW6279.
Take color to the master suite – Wall colors are staying fairly neutral, BUT vanities are starting to show some color! One of my favorite master bathroom colors is Sherwin-Williams In The Navy SW9178, which is a deep navy. I always want a client’s master bedroom/master bathroom to have a spa like feel. From the decorating prospective the master bedroom and master bathroom should flow together, meaning all the use of the same color family. So, in the master bedroom we may use the In The Navy color in the painted nightstands or have the mantel painted, if there is a fireplace. If we choose not to paint walls or items, we may instead find décor such as wall art, throw pillows, draperies or an area rug that has a deep navy in them.
Paint your built-ins – The new trend is to paint built-in bookshelves in a very deep/rich color. For example, if our wall color is the Sherwin-Williams Shell White, I would choose Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal to really make my clients built- ins really have that ‘wow factor’.
If you’re not sure about using color in the main areas of your home like I mentioned above, take baby steps by starting with a powder room or a fireplace mantel. Just remember, if you don’t like it you can change it. Get out of your comfort zone and paint something!
Thank you for allowing me to be a guest blogger. Hopefully you will take my advice and not be afraid of the use of color. Colors are here to stay around for some time. Be brave, be bold, be beautiful.
